As many of you know, Nacho was stolen and got thrashed … a messed up steering column, damaged center console, a broken window, a dented up door, and more. Even before the police found it, many of you reached out about Nacho and shared how you wanted to contribute to seeing the van restored to be fully operational (and serving coffee). Some started giving money, and others pledged without even asking.
2023 was a momentous year for me personally and for Loam Coffee. When I sold Loam back in 2020, I was excited and relieved. Those feelings slowly turned to mourning and loss. Therefore, when I reacquired Loam in March, I was ecstatic … and still am. As I reflect on 2023, I can’t help but feel a deep sense of gratitude and excitement for the future. Let me share why …

Coffee is one of those subjects where there are strong opinions about what is “good.” Some prefer dark roast, while others only drink light roast. In the midst of a frustrating past week dealing with a stolen and now recovered van, there has been a huge bright spot … YOU! Sure, the van thing was annoying, but it’s not the end of the world. The best part of this whole experience is seeing how so many of you care. Many of you reached out to me because you even wanted to give to help fix up Nacho the Van. That was genuinely humbling. Thank you. I am grateful for you.

It certainly has been a week of ups and downs around here. First, Nacho the Van was stolen last Wednesday night/Thursday morning. While there was a lot of uncertainty that we’d ever see Nacho again, we received a call from Portland Police that they had found it Sunday night. But that’s not the end of the story …
