One of the most exciting parts of reacquiring Loam Coffee after three years away has been sharing the journey with you—not just re-engaging with the company but also planning for its growth. Since getting Loam back was unexpected, I feel like I’m playing with house money. There’s no rush. Instead, I’m focused on the long game: building and executing a thoughtful, sustainable plan.

So, what’s the plan?

Fitting Loam Coffee into a Full Life

Between teaching full-time at my university, leading and growing Trail Builder Magazine, and freelance photography and writing projects, my schedule is already packed. For Loam, the first step was scaling back production, revamping our approach, and sourcing a new coffee profile. We now focus on naturally processed coffees—light, bright, fruity, and floral.

A Slight Rebrand and Evolving Social Media

We made subtle tweaks to Loam’s branding, but the bigger shift has been adapting to the changing nature of social media. In 2015, organic growth on platforms like Instagram came easily. Today, it’s more challenging but still essential for visibility. While maintaining our presence on traditional platforms, I’m also experimenting with new ones, like TikTok.

Content is evolving, too. I often ask, “What value does Loam Coffee bring? How are we making a positive impact?” These questions guide me toward creating content that’s both fun and helpful—product reviews, brewing tips, and outdoor coffee solutions, from trail espresso to travel kettles.

The Coffee Van Adventure

Upgrading Nacho the Van is a key part of Loam’s next chapter. I’m excited to expand into coffee catering for cycling races and outdoor events. Nacho is getting fine-tuned to become a mobile coffee hub, and I love hearing how much people enjoy the setup. Maybe espresso drinks are in our future?

A Balanced Passion

Juggling teaching, Trail Builder Magazine, and Loam Coffee is a fun (and challenging) balance. But I’m grateful for the chance to steer Loam in a direction that aligns with my passions.

Thank you for being part of this journey. The best is yet to come.
